Frequently Asked Questions About Summer Programs

What kind of role will my child receive in the musicals?
We only accept as many students as we have available roles. We keep the musicals small so each student has a chance to shine onstage! The first few days of the summer musicals are purely instructional; students will learn about the show, practice auditions, and get to know about the process. They will audition and each enrolled child will be assigned a role.

We’re going on vacation at some point during rehearsals. Does that mean we shouldn’t sign up?
It’s pretty common for campers to miss rehearsals occasionally for vacation. Just tell us in advance which rehearsals you can’t attend so we can plan accordingly. However, if you know you’ll miss 2 weeks or more of rehearsals, we recommend choosing a different program so your camper doesn’t struggle to learn all their songs and dances.

What are the performances like?
Our summer musicals are just like our school-year plays. They are fully-mounted productions with sets, costumes, and 3 performances for a public audience.

What activities occur in the Theatre Camps?
Theatre camps are 2 weeks long so the campers have time to prepare a short play! We will also teach acting skills, audition skills, improvisation, and other skills related to their age group and interest! Every day includes two snack breaks, a lunch break, and a little free time–it is summer time, after all!

Is there a performance?
Yes! The Theatre Camps all perform for friends and family at the Ohio Theatre on the last day of camp.

I have a child who will have a birthday during/just before/just after a program. What’s the right group for my child?
If your child has a birthday during a program, pick a program that suits their new age. If it’s just before or after, give us a call and we’ll help you figure out what may be a good fit!

What are the snack/lunch expectations?
Campers must bring a packed lunch. Please send it with them in the morning. Unfortunately we are not able to accommodate parents picking up their camper for lunch. We can store a limited amount of lunches in our refrigerator.
We will provide two snacks during camp: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Our snacks are usually a cracker (like goldfish), cookie, fruit snacks, or fresh fruit. You are also welcome to send your own snacks with your camper. We keep water on site for your camper to have whenever needed, but encourage them to bring a water bottle for fewer interruptions.

What’s the dress code?
We don’t require any special clothing beyond wearing closed toed shoes (no flips flops or sandals) and comfortable clothes that do not portray anything profane or inappropriate. Our crafts can get messy, though!

What do I do if my child is not a strong reader?
We’re ready for that! Just tell us before camp starts so we can accommodate.

My child doesn’t want to act in the play but wants to enroll in camp. What are our options?
That largely depends on yours and your child’s expectations for what they WILL do in camp. Give us a call and we’ll figure out what’s possible!

What activities occur in the Musical Theatre Camps?
Song and dance are the major activities for these camps! Each week our teachers select 2-3 songs that our campers will learn. We will also teach acting skills, audition skills, improvisation, and other skills related to their age group and interest! Every day includes two snack breaks, a lunch break, and a little free time–it is summer time, after all!

Is there a performance?
Not a full performance, but a small sharing for immediate family on Friday. We’ll email you exactly when to come in, but it will likely be about 12:45 pm for the 4-5 year olds, and between 4 and 4:40 pm for the older students.

I have a child who will have a birthday during/just before/just after a program. What’s the right group for my child?
If your child has a birthday during a program, pick a program that suits their new age. If it’s just before or after, give us a call and we’ll help you figure out what may be a good fit!

What do I do if my child is not a strong reader?
We’re ready for that! Just tell us before camp starts so we can accommodate.

My child doesn’t want to sing or dance but wants to enroll in camp. What are our options?
They should consider our Theatre Camps! Those are for our campers who are NOT interested in musical theatre.

What types of technical theatre work will my camper do?
This program is a combination of design and construction. Most of what they will do is creating designs for set pieces, costumes, lights, and props, and then making them. They will not be using blades in this program, but are likely to use screw guns, sewing machines, and hot glue. We will provide materials unless the camper wishes to bring their own.

What’s the dress code for this program?
We don’t require any special clothing beyond wearing closed toed shoes (no flips flops or sandals) and comfortable clothes that do not portray anything profane or inappropriate. Set painting can get messy, though! We will announce in advance if they will need to wear work/paint clothing.

My camper requires accomodations. What do I need to do to arrange this?
We would be happy to help! Anything from a “one on one” partner to ASL interpreter to shortened camp days, we will work with you to make sure your camper has what they need to have a successful and fun experience! Just send us an email and we will get in touch to help! We do ask that accessibility arrangements be made two weeks in advance so we have adequate time to prepare.

If you’re an Ohio family with income 300% or less of the federal poverty line (Like a household of 4 people making less than $90,000!), then you can apply for vouchers from the Ohio ACE program for FREE tuition.

We have a limited amount of scholarships to offer, and they are accepted on a rolling basis until all the scholarships have been awarded. You can request a half scholarship (covering 50% of the tuition) or full scholarship.

Please note that we also offer payment plans for any program over $50!

Teens should apply for our Summer Teen Volunteer Program–if they help out with our Acting or Day Camps, they can receive discounts on their camp fees as a thank you!
