Frequently Asked Questions About Summer Programs

What kind of role will my child receive in the musicals?
We only accept as many students as we have available roles. We keep the musicals small so each student has a chance to shine onstage! The first few days of the summer musicals are purely instructional; students will learn about the show, practice auditions, and get to know about the process. They will audition and each enrolled child will be assigned a role.

We’re going on vacation at some point during rehearsals. Does that mean we shouldn’t sign up?
It’s pretty common for campers to miss rehearsals occasionally for vacation. Just tell us in advance which rehearsals you can’t attend so we can plan accordingly. However, if you know you’ll miss 2 weeks or more of rehearsals, we recomend choosing a different program so your camper doesn’t struggle to learn all their songs and dances.

What are the performances like?
Our summer musicals are just like our school-year plays. They are fully-mounted productions with sets, costumes, and 4 performances for a public audience.

Will you be requiring masks for this program?
It’s hard to know what the pandemic situation will be like at this point. All we can guarantee at the time of this writing is that we will comply with health and safety guidelines as well as city ordinances.

What activities occur in the Day Camps?
Campers start the day together, for daily announcements and a group game. Then they split into their age groups and go to different rooms for theatre activities. Each day contains improvisation, theatre games, crafts, musical theatre OR technical theatre, and devising. The younger ages also have a puppetry section. We provide two snack breaks during the day as well as a lunch break. The day concludes with a group activity and closing announcements.

I want to enroll a few of my children. Is there a way I can group them together or make sure they are kept apart?
We can try to put your children together if they are relatively close in age or separate them if you think they will have a better experience in different groups. Our lunch and snack breaks also group different ages together, so your kids can check in together throughout the day. Also make sure you have that 10% off sibling discount applied to your order!

What are the snack/lunch expectations?
Campers must bring a packed lunch. Please do not plan to spend your lunch time with your camper. We can store a limited amount of lunches in the refrigerator.
We will provide two snacks during camp: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Our snacks are usually a cracker (like goldfish), cookie, fruit snacks, or fresh fruit. You are also welcome to send your own snacks with your camper. We keep water on site for your camper to have whenever needed, but encourage them to bring a water bottle for fewer interruptions.

What’s the dress code?
We don’t require any special clothing beyond wearing comfortable clothes that do not portray anything profane or inappropriate. Our crafts can get messy, though!

What activities occur in the Acting Camps?
These camps are designed for campers who want to develop their acting skills further. They will focus more on acting and improv activities that will increase their skill and experience. They will also practice auditions, audition for a role, and present a short play to their families at the end of the week. We provide two snack breaks during the day as well as a lunch break.

What types of technical theatre work will my camper do?
This program is a combination of design and construction. Most of what they will do is creating designs for set pieces, costumes, lights, and props, and then making them. They will not be using blades in this program, but are likely to use screw guns, sewing machines, and hot glue. We will provide materials unless the camper wishes to bring their own.

What’s the dress code for this program?
Campers don’t need to wear specific clothing for this program unless they are building or painting. We will announce in advance if they will need to wear work/paint clothing.

My camper requires accomodations. What do I need to do to arrange this?
We would be happy to help! Anything from a “one on one” partner to ASL interpreter to shortened camp days, we will work with you to make sure your camper has what they need to have a successful and fun experience! Just send us an email and we will get in touch to help! We do ask that accessibility arrangements be made two weeks in advance so we have adequate time to prepare.

We can offer scholarships for any of our programs for Summer 2021. Head to our scholarship page and fill out the information! We have a limited amount of scholarships to offer, and they are accepted on a rolling basis until all the scholarships have been awarded.

Please note that we also offer payment plans for any program over $50!

Teens should apply for our Summer Teen Volunteer Program–if they help out with our Day Camps, they can receive discounts on their camp fees as a thank you!
